AIR Niugini says most of its scheduled domestic and international flights are operating although there were some delayed or cancelled services yesterday.
The national airline said in a statement the problems were due to technical and crewing issues “which are usual operational challenges experienced in any given day”.
“The management acknowledged that disruptions may have caused concerns among passengers. However, as the national carrier, Air Niugini reassures its customers that it is committed to providing air services as per its schedule.”
It was responding to a threat this week by a civil society group to disrupt flights, water and power services, if Prime Minister Peter O’Neill refused to step down by midnight Tuesday.
But yesterday most public services continued, including Air Niugini’s flights.
Chief executive officer Simon Foo said Air Niugini was going through a lot of positive developments which would enable the airline to improve services to its customers.
“Our commitment to continue providing a reliable service is our priority and ensuring that the company and its staff are there for the customers,” Foo said.
“We sent four new pilot cadets on Friday to train in Coffs Harbour, we are purchasing new aircraft to the fleet to offer more flights and efficient operations throughout the country.”
