Air pollution theme of Environment Day
SCHOOLS around the country are expected to observe the World Environment Day today.
With the theme “Air pollution”, Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra challenged schools to come up with expressions in activities and commitments that would promote environmental protection.
Uke said air pollution could be defined as the presence of toxic chemicals or compounds (including those of biological origin) in the air, at levels that posed a health risk
“Air pollution causes health problems and damages the environment, man, plants and animals which also harms the ozone layer and adversely affecting the climate,” he said.
“Air pollution is one of the most important environmental issues today which requires identifying and solving by everyone.
“In our efforts to save the world, such important days like the World Environment Day encourages worldwide awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
“We should take care of the Earth locally, nationally and globally.”
