PNG Air Services Ltd (PNGASL) has acquired a new automatic message handling system (AMHS) from Germany-based COMSOFT.

The system was delivered and operational in five months.

PNGASL managing director Capt Ted Pakii said: “I am proud that PNGASL has procured a modern system that will not only make PNG comply with international best practices but ensure that we live by our vision to become a truly world-class company and contribute to a safe airspace for air operators and the travelling public.

“This solution will ensure that we are now able to provide advanced message handling services to the airline industry.”

Pakii said the new system was a tool for processing aviation related messages that were based on International Civil Aviation Organisation ground-to-ground communications standards.

“The AMHS has a higher functionality (which includes security and directory access facilities), and its messages can carry any kind of digital information, including text, graphics, images, files, data bases, audio and video.

“PNGASL now owns the most modern and fully integrated AMHS that is compliant to ICAO standards,” he said.

“The system is one of the first in the Asia-Pacific region.”
