Air Niugini chief executive officer Bruce Alabaster advised passengers who are unable or do not wish to travel during the 14 days restrictions period that the airline is waiving change fees.
Prime Minister James Marape this week announced an immediate ban on all domestic flights from Port Moresby for 14 days, among other measures, following a spike in Covid-19 cases in the city.
Marape also said international flights would only be allowed to operate between Brisbane and Cairns and could only be operated by PNG aircraft.
Responding to The National regarding domestic flight arrangements in the 14-day period, Alabaster yesterday said: “In addition, Air Niugini’s domestic flights continue to operate in accordance with the requirements of the amended Pandemic Measure Number 3- Domestic Travel issued by the Controller issued on Monday (July 27).
“The requirements in the updated Order are similar to the Order that was issued earlier on Thursday, July 23, which does not ban domestic flights either within PNG or to/from Port Moresby.
“The airline will continue to comply with the requirements of this order and additionally continue to provide all passengers with masks which are required to be worn whilst onboard, access to hand sanitisers, temperature checks prior to entering the terminal, and provide the Air Passenger Travel Form (APTF) at check-in.”
