Airline scoops fifth gold status in aviation safety

LINK PNG, the subsidiary of Air Niugini Ltd, has been awarded gold status for the fifth consecutive year after passing an international aviation safety programme.
According to a company statement, Link PNG passed the Basic Aviation Risks Standards (Bars), a worldwide audit programme undertaken by the Flight Safety Foundation last December.
It reviewed all of Link PNG’s operational procedures and safety standards to ensure that the airline met world’s best practices.
Link PNG general manager Bruce Alabaster said it was not the first time the airline had achieved gold status in Bars.
“The audit ensures Link PNG meets a series of onerous standards, all of our operational management and control systems. Safety is everything,” Alabaster said.
“We are serious and our result speaks for itself.
Bars is a risk-based model framed against the actual threats posed to aviation operations, particularly those that occur within challenging and remote environments.
While the programme was originally developed to meet the needs of the mining and resources sector, it was also used by other organisations that use aviation to support their activities.
“These standards are used by a wide range of resource companies to ensure airlines providing services to these companies meet their requirements.” Link PNG provides charter services to PNG-based resource companies.
