LINK PNG says the airline will resume operations to Girua airport in Popondetta, Northern, following reports that temporary bridges have been built to allow traffic flow to the airport.

The airline will operate additional services to cater for the backlog of passengers since the flights to Popondetta flights were suspended last week. The bridges in Popondetta were damaged during heavy rain and flood last week, resulting in the suspension of flights because people could not get to the airport.

A construction company is working on the bridges by using planks and timber to allow vehicles to cross.

Meanwhile, Link PNG in a statement said the airline’s flight to Tari had resumed. The flights were suspended last Wednesday because of tribal flights in the area.

Local police have assured the airline that the situation is under control but Link PNG will continue to monitor flights on a daily basis.

Link PNG is a subsidiary company of Air Niugini Limited.
