THE Mendi Airport in Southern Highlands can now take in fixed wing and aircraft with no more than 19 passengers, National Airports Corporation (NAC) managing director and chief executive officer Rex Kiponge says.
He said a team from NAC and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) would do an assessment at the airport next week before it could take normal flights.
Kiponge said with the civil unrest in Mt Hagen forcing cancellation of flights into Kagamuga airport, Mendi airport would take in normal flights.
“Only chartered flights can fly in, Tropic Air and others. Next week, NAC and CASA team will do a full assessment and then we will inform the airlines that the runway is now ready.”
