Alcohol leading cause of issues

Letters

THE government should ban the consumption of alcohol and restrict the movement of alcohol consumers in public places.
The consumption of alcohol in public places and creating trouble has been out of control.
Innocent lives have been taken.
Tribal fights have been a result of drunken brawl.
Homes have been razed and families displaced are some of the outcomes.
The frightening thing is children as young as ten years old are being influenced.
This has also lured girls and women who are consuming alcohol publicly.
It has also crept into the schools with students between the ages of 12-18 consuming alcohol almost every time in any public event.
The greatest challenge for parents especially in settlements is how to raise their children in an area surrounded by alcohol abusers, because children as young as five are already imitating and using abusive language used by drunkards.
This is a disease eating away the fabric of our society once enjoyed by our parents.
It’s a syndrome which should be seriously looked into, because it has spread to everywhere in PNG – in urban and remote areas.
Public consumption of alcohol should be banned and alcohol consumption should be restricted within residences and hotels.
People under the influence of alcohol should not move around or leave their residences while intoxicated.
It is time the government pass a bill that can be beneficial to the brewery company, genuine alcohol consumers and the peaceful and innocent people in the community.
The genuine brewery company should continue with production, genuine alcohol consumers can consume alcohol in a more controlled manner ensuring the public will be at peace while moving around or at home.

  • ALCOHOL ( Beer) consumption be it a factory made or home made by drinking it by many uneducated or quarter or half educated psychopaths and lunatics population or citizens of this country, PNG, between the ages as young as 12 – 40 years old is just uncontrollable this days. Does both the National and the Provincial Governments knows that it is a NATIONAL ISSUE & CONCERN TODAY? Please, come out with a control restriction measures on the drinking of alcohol especially in PUBLIC PLACES. One such is close all outlets like the Super Markets ( Shops & Stores), Town Market Stores and Shops and Settlement Stores and Canteens on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. This is the peak times/days ( Pay Day) I see many people getting drunk and acting stupidity and obviously you don’t to want see and hear about the negativeness actions and words and other lawlessness. Yes, lawlessness you won’t find or see any policemen/women with their Patrol Vehicles on sights during the weekends at all to arrest these trouble makers and lock them up at the Police Station Cells over the weekends and pay fines of K 500.00 and come out from the Cells on a Monday.
