THE long awaited start to the rugby union season proper in Port Moresby again dodged its scheduled April 14 commencement date on Saturday, under the new Capital Rugby Union (CRU).
No games were played as per the CRU tentative calendar, since pre-season was to have kicked off on March 24 and completed on April 7.
The ongoing delay has not gone down well with clubs and players especially, having been in training since January, and playing the waiting game for almost two months.
Communication with CRU has been straight through the Papua New Guinea Rugby Union office. However the clubs are awaiting communication from CRU executives.
The new union, earmarked by PNGRU as the one avenue for the reunion of Port Moresby Rugby union (POMRFU) and 2011 breakaway competition Metro rugby union (MRU) for 2012, looks to have kept everyone informed accept its main stakeholders, the clubs and players.
Meetings are known to have been held, but no concrete information has been disseminated to the clubs for exact dates and venues as yet.
The Bava rugby union park is believed to be under the mowers still.
Rugby union news and information has been kept under a quiet tab of late, that the return on Tuesday of the Palais, the national women’s sevens team from the Australian titles took the media, there to meet the PNG U17 soccer team, by surprise.
The PNG Palais lost to Australian Defence Force 39-29 in the bowl final.
