PREPARATIONS to stage the fifth Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture have begun with billboards put up around the country.
Culture and Tourism Minister Boka Kondra engaged contractors to put up the billboards.
This means people living outside of Port Moresby will have the chance to watch Melanesian countries perform traditional dances and display artefacts.
Joe Kumba from Kerowagi district in Chimbu thanked Kondra for staging the festival outside Port Moresby.
“We will now have a chance to see cultural performances of other Melanesian countries,” Kumba said.
Billboards have been erected at Watarais Madang, Lae and the Highlands junction. Some are placed at strategic spots along the Highlands Highway.
The Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture will be held from June 28 to July 11.
