WITH less than nine weeks before the third Pacific Islands Triathlon and Cycling Championships is held in Port Moresby, preparations by the local organising committee are on target.

Stephen Damien, of UpSouth Event, who is taking the lead in organising the event, confirmed only four teams would take part after Tonga pulled out from the three-event competition.

The island countries confirmed are Fiji, Solomon Islands, Guam and host, Papua New Guinea.

Damien said Guam and Fiji had confirmed the names of their 6-7-member squads while the Solomon Islands and PNG had yet to release theirs.

The PNG Triathlon Association will release the names of its participants soon.

Damien said it should be noted the triathlon and time trial course remained the same as stated in earlier emails.

The course for the criterium has been changed to Ela Beach-Koki because it is within the minimum course distance for a criterium race and is easier for race officials to manage.
