THE controversial and delayed Pacific Marine Industrial Zone (PMIZ) in Madang is a definite go-ahead, according to Commerce and Industry Minister Richard Maru.

He said yesterday that he had received a letter from lawyers, representing the three main groups against the PMIZ, saying that they had withdrawn the case.

This, ironically, comes after the department took the groups on a recent tour of such similar projects in the Philippines.

“The Madang marine project is going ahead as of today,” Maru said.

“Next week, the secretary and I will go to Madang to meet the landowners and communities.

“We will have an office in Madang to work with the affected communities.”
