FAVOURITES New Zealand confirmed a spot in the semi-finals, with another big win over Vanuatu, 5-0, in the opening game on day three of the OFC Nations Cup at Sir John Guise Stadium yesterday.
All Whites captain Chris Wood got proceedings underway with a close range kick, following a long throw from Bill Tuiloma to take an early lead in the fourth minute.
Two minutes later, a misdirected pass from Vanuatu found Wood, who made no mistake slotting the ball past goalkeeper Seloni Iaruel to extend the lead.
Vanuatu was penalised which saw Michael McGlinchey slam home a long range effort for a 3-0 lead.
Vanuatu picked up their game with Kensi Tangis, Bong Kalo, Fenedy Masauvakalo and Brian Kaltack lifting their intensity but it was to no avail, with the All Whites containing them at every turn.
Rory Fallon scored in the 19th minute for the New Zealanders before replacement Kosta Barbarouses bagged his side’s fifth for the Kiwis  to go into the sheds with a 5-0 advantage. NZ 5 (Wood 4, 6; McGlinchey 10; Fallon 19; Barbarouses 45) Vanuatu 0. HT: NZ 5 Vanuatu 0.
