ALLIED Gold, operators of the Simberi gold mine in New Ireland, has poured its first gold from  the Solomon Islands mine.
The pour, announced last Wednesday, was in preparation for the re-opening of the Gold Ridge mine operations on March 22, the Solomon Star newspaper reported.
“Allied Gold Ltd is pleased to advise its 100%-owned 120,000oz a year Gold Ridge gold mine on north central Guadalcanal has poured its first gold under Allied ownership,” the company said in a statement.
Allied Gold spokes-person Simon Jemison said the first gold was achieved within a year of Allied taking control of the project and investing SI$150 million to refurbish and redevelop the mine.
