THE National Housing Corporation (NHC) has started allocating allotments at Duran Farm to the Government and private sectors, managing director Henry Mokono says.
He said interested departments, companies and small to medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) should sign an agreement with the NHC to secure about 100 allotments each.
“The allocation of allotments is open to every department, company and SME owner to come and realise the dream of buying an affordable house,” he said.
“According to my records, some Government agencies, including the Personal Management Department, have signed with the NHC and secured 100 allotments for their employees.”
Mokono said this was to ensure people working in both the public and private sectors and other ordinary citizens involved in informal market were given equal opportunities to buy a house.
He said people had money but they could not afford to buy a house because the price and deposits were unaffordable in Port Moresby and Lae.
Mokono said earlier that Government departments across the board would be given 100 allotments each.
The NHC would prepare about 2,515 allotments and houses prices were expected to range between K250,000 and K450,000.
Mokono said the Government had planned to deliver social housing programmes throughout the country.
“The Government wanted to make housing affordable for every simple and ordinary Papua New Guinean,” he said.
Meanwhile, five contractors have been engaged to build houses at Duran Farm once work on the demolition of 60 houses there was complete.
