Allow us to enrol

Letters

I AM a student attending Karkar Secondary School on Karkar Island, Madang.
Last Thursday, I went to the school to register for Grade 12 this year.
I brought K700 to make an up-front payment but the clerk refused to accept my payment.
She said the administration had made the agreement that all students (both day and boarding) who want to enrol should pay K1,000 as up-front payment.
She said the Government announced the amount for subsidy in the media but there was no money in the school’s account.
I walked off because I don’t have power over such things.
Not all students are getting the support from our families and communities.
During school holidays, we do part time work to raise funds for our fees.
Can you just accept whatever we have?

Daniel,
Madang
