Alotau back in business, official says

Business

BUSINESS is back to normal in Alotau, says Milne Bay chamber of commerce and industry vice-president Tasman Silcock.
Businesses in the province had been instructed to reduce their activities, especially at night, due to threats of retaliation following the killing of Tommy Maeva Baker last month.
“Everything is normal now,” Silcock told.
“The police have kept control of things and its business as usual.
“There hasn’t been any more issues.
“It has been quite.
“Business has been normal.”
Silcock said there were also some commercial developments happening in the province.
“We have the new Island Plaza building which is nearly ready to be opened. (It is) a multi-level multi-purpose business centre and available for rentals.”
Silcock said Jade Island was new supermarket building and hotel complex.
“The business community is putting money back in trying to make Alotau grow bigger and better than ever before.”
Following Baker’s killing, Silcock said businesses had been cautioned about threats to their safety.
“Business is as usual but there is no extended trading hours. Businesses are closing early,” he said.
