TWO young men have been arrested and charged with murder following the death of a Correctional Services officer’s son in Milne Bay province.
According to initial police reports, five young men were drinking together on Dec 18, when a fight broke out at about 6.30pm.
Police said after this, one of the drunkards from Okapa, Eastern Highlands province, was going home when he was followed by two others who started another fight.
Provincial police commander Sr Insp Lincoln Gerari said during the fight, the Okapa youth was stabbed with a knife.
Sr Insp Gerari said it appeared that the knife penetrated one of the young man’s lungs and heart.
He said bystanders helped the wounded man and called for an ambulance which rushed him to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sr Insp Gerari commended the swift action of his officers to arrest two suspects within an hour.
They will appear in Alotau District Court next week.
The deceased is a 20-year-old student.
