SIX associations in the Moresby North-East electorate communities received K67,000 from the local MP Labi Amiau to help their work.

Amaiu told reporters during the cheque presentation in Port Moresby yesterday that his administration spent on areas that had a long term effect in the electorate.

“We (administration) want to assist associations which have support of the community, not individual associations who are out there for their own interest,” he said.

“We want to support associations who represent the interest of the community and that is by empowering them financially and making sure we have guidelines put in place so they could assist their communities.”

He said it was not the first time he funded such projects as he had presented over 54 cheques last year to groups for their projects.

“Apart from land and water and electricity, we  are also embarking and supporting our small to medium enterprises programme, that is to create a platform for our youth, especially young men and women,” he said.

Amaiu thanked the Joint District Planning and Budget Priorities Committee for approving the release of funds to the groups for their projects.
