LABI Amaiu, the new Port Moresby Northeast MP-elect, is ready to serve his electorate.
He is not a stranger to politics as his dad, Tom Amaiu, was a two-term parliamentarian for the Kompiam-Ambum seat in Enga. Tom Amaiu was elected to parliament in 1992 and led the United Party.
He served as Housing and CIS minister during his two terms. He re-contested this year but was not as successful as his son. “Naturally as the son of a politician he did his own way. “The Chans and the Somares have done it and now the Amaius have done it too,” a proud father said. Amaiu, the current chairman of the Port Moresby Rugby League will officially relinquish this post tomorrow to concentrate on his political duties. He said he was humbled by the fact that five out of a total of 13 votes cast by disabled voters in his electorate were for him. “I will take my duties seriously and will deliver as part of the government,” he said. The MP elect said the people had spoken through the ballot and he therefore pledged to provide true leadership under all circumstances for service delivery to the four wards in his electorate.
He also said that he would create support-facilities for all sporting codes in Moresby Northeast during his term.
