Amaiu not in sync with development in capital city

IN recent weeks, there have been paid commercials in dailies and local radio station Central FM promoting water launch projects.

A new newspaper, North East Mirror, which is produced and circulated in the North East electorate, is pure propaganda.

From a layman’s perspective, it is all colour and glamour with stories and pictures about activities in the electorate.

You can imagine how much money from the DSIP funds are transferred to multimedia agencies.

My understanding is that DSIP funds are established to help district bring services to the people.

Open members are to use the funds according to district development plans and priorities.

However, in recent times, it is being politicised and abused.

The member of Moresby North East continues to launch water projects in settlements in his electorate at an ad-hoc and unplanned manner.

The usage of DSIP funds is structured according to major budget priority areas, with specific ceiling threshold and of course, a proper committee should be in place to endorse expenditure at all levels.

The settlement relocation and redevelopment of underdeveloped land are major agendas for NCD Governor Powes Parkop.

Whilst that is being addressed, Amaiu is going around legitimising settlements in his electorate through water connection.

I guess there is a communication problem with Amaiu’s and Parkop’s offices.

This is catastrophic as it is like putting the cart before the horse.

Unlike Amaiu, his counterpart in Moresby South, Justin Tkatchenko is doing a fantastic job.

Amaiu should learn from his colleague on how to use DSIP funds effectively through planning and to prioritise real tangible projects.
