SUPT Kaiglo Ambane is the new provincial police commander of Morobe.

Ambane, from Kerowagi, Chimbu, replaces Supt Leo Lamei, who  retired.

Lamei confirmed his retirement on Sunday saying he was over 60, the retirement age in the police force.

“I am not the only one. There are many other officers who have been retired as well by headquarters,” Lamei said.

Momase police chief Nema Mondiai confirmed the appointment, saying Ambane took up office two weeks ago following a handover ceremony with the outgoing commander in Lae.

Ambane was the Southern Highlands PPC before to taking up his new post.

He was the Western Highlands police commander before Supt Martin Lakari took over.

He served in different capacities before becoming a PPC, including being a trainer at the Bomana Police College outside Port Moresby, according to Mondiai.

Ambane will hold a press conference later to outline his plans for the Morobe force.
