FORMER PNG Kumuls and Hunters fullback Stargroth Amean, pictured, has stood up to inspire young rugby league youths after retiring from the sport earlier this year.
Amean paid a visit to Port Moresby Suburban Rugby League club, Eastern End United, earlier in the month to encourage and inspire them about spiritual living, sports and education.
The 27-year old was invited to talk to the youth by non-governmentalorganisation, the Papua New Guinea Encounter First (PNGEF).
Amean was as a special guest for their youth development programme at Nikints St, Morata 2.
Amean said he achieved the goal he had set himself in rugby league which was to play for PNG.
His next goal was to complete his education which was why he retired from playing this year.
“It’s not an easy road to success in anything you do and for me, growing up, I begin my league career in primary school,” Amean said.
Amean officiated at the launch of the Struggles programme that was organised by PNGEF to run over the next five Mondays.
PNGEF programme coordinator Imen Uliando said they had a network of sporting heroes and personalities which they asked to help promote their community orinted programmes.
Uliando said the programmes were to used to inspire, encourage and empower youths to see the possibilities in life.
Eastern End United coach Hallet Padapu welcomed PNGEF for their intiative and for teaming up with the Suburban league.
“I would like to thank PNGEF and Stargroth Amean their time and commitment to come down to Morata to talk to our club and its players. We appreciate it and we are learned a lot,” Hallet said.
Amean took up studies at University of PNG after leaving the Hunters earlier this year.
He said he was honoured to help PNGEF programmes for youth.
The PNGEF will run the Struggles programme with lessons, presentations, video footage and practical assignments for youth in Morata and sports clubs in the Suburban league.
