A WOMAN leader in East New Britain has thanked the people of America for providing funds to enable capacity building of women leaders in the province.

Anasain Zao praised the US Government for providing funds through a non-governmental organisation called International Foundation for Electoral System (IFES), which conducted a three-day training in Rabaul last week.

Zao was among 30 participants, mostly women leaders, who undertook the course.

“It is great to see that the taxpayers of USA see the importance of such areas of development in developing countries like PNG thus providing funds for the NGO group,” Zao said.

She said with the knowledge she attained from the workshop she could see that most LLGs in the province were dead.

“Despite having officers on the ground at the local level governments, there does not seem to be any money available to bring development into the wards,” Zao said.

IFES country representatives Maria Poinanrea  and Ruby Matane facilitated the workshop.
