Amoa win Elcom volleyball

AMOA are the champions of the men’s division in the Elcom Hohola Volleyball competition after defeating Mananea Gaigais from Gabagaba 3-0 on Saturday.
Amoa were very dominant right from the start blocking off their opponent’s from the Magi highway, not giving them a chance to penetrate their defence line, forcing Mananea to struggle throughout the three sets.
Led by their power hitters Kevin Joe and Kila Lakani, the duo powered their way through in the first set 25-15, and grabbed the second set 25-20 to keep their dancing supporters on their feet throughout the final.
Mananea tried to put up some resistance in the third set but failed to defuse the firing Amoa power hitters losing to them again by five points 25-20, and handing over the premiership trophy and the K300 cash prize money, while they had to be content collecting K200 in the runners-up stakes.
In the women’s grand final, the Mananea Gaigais  evened the score for their men’s side thrashing Amoa 3-0 in another one- sided affair.
Mananea also grabbed the K300 prize money and the premiership title in the division.
President of the PNG Volleyball Federation Turaho Morea and secretary John Paliau were also present at the grand finals at the Elcom Volleyball courts, together with the members of the Arafura games volleyball champions VAVA to witness the finals.
The Pune volleyball club won the minor premiership  in the regular competition but failed to carry the season’s good form into the finals when it lost to Manea in the semis.
