AMOANA coach Naime Kepi says his Southern Conference cellar dwellers are still adapting to the level of competition following their sixth-straight Women’s National Football League loss.
He said it wasn’t about the size of the field but rather getting his players to understand and keep pace with the level of football in the league.
Kepi said he had been equipping his players with tactics and ideas about limiting the number of goals they conceded.
“My aim was to improve from the number of goals we conceded in our 1-13 defeat by Hekari in round one,” he said.
“But unfortunately, we couldn’t and lost 0-19.
“It goes back to the girls and how they adapt to the game, but it’s difficult and we’re working on improving that.”
Kepi said playing in the league was a huge opportunity for the team as they were representing Central although they came from a small association (Koupa) at Kaparoko village in Hula.
“These experiences will help us prepare for next season,” he said.
“The majority of my players are from Koupa. We selected two or three women from each of the six Koupa clubs to form Amoana.”
Although they are yet to win a game after six rounds, Kepi remains confident that their experiences would boost the team as they continue to give their best in each game.
The former Hekari United player said his next aim was to recruit players from Rigo, the coast and inland, to form a stronger roster for next season.
