AMOANA have recruited six Morobe-based players — two of whom played in the Central side’s clash with Port Moresby City on Saturday — in a bid to boost their Women’s National Soccer League campaign.
Amoana manager Dianne Leka said after their 0-19 round-six loss to Hekari United, the team returned to Kaparoko village and trained with their new recruits who joined them last Monday.
Leka said after last week’s training, the winless Southern Conference cellar dwellers were aiming for a positive result against Port Moresby Academy which they achieved with a draw.
It was their first point after seven rounds in the country’s premier women’s football competition.
“We played against Academy in round one and we nearly beat them,” Leka said.
“So we told the girls, today (Saturday) must be a win or draw, nothing less.
“We also had the help of our new players from Morobe, one of them played in the backline (Ruth John) and she performed very well.”
Although they dominated possession, their finishing was off the mark.
“We’ll be working on our attack,” Leka said.
“We have to find someone (striker) who can score goals.
“But for now, we’ll work with the roster that we have.”
Meanwhile, Leka said she was disappointed over some errors that were not flagged by the referee and linesmen.
She said the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) should consider fielding referees from their Koupa Soccer Association to ensure fairness.
“Right now, we don’t have any representatives from our association in the refereeing team, it’s only from National Capital District and the Port Moresby Soccer Association,” Leka said.
“However, it was a good game.
“We’ll take the point and look forward to the next match.”
