DESPITE bowing out in the first week of the Digicel Cup finals series, the Enga Mioks say they had one of their best performances of the 2020 season against the Hela Wigmen on Sunday.
Coach Andiki Andrew said despite the 12-14 loss, the Mioks showed resolve in their game which was a good sign for the Enga provincial government-backed side’s campaign next season
“That was the best game for the Mioks this season,” he said.
“We had a lead in the first half, we managed to fight back and we didn’t expect to have a close game like this.
“I’m very happy with the boys who managed to put on a strong game against Wigmen who were the better side at fulltime.
“It was very good effort and I would congratulate all the boys, it was just the little things that we didn’t do right that made the difference,” he said.
“I came into the Mioks late in the season so I’ve come on board and identified a few changes that we need for next season and its good we end this season on a good note.”
Andrew was recruited into the role of coaching assistant for the Mioks after the current head coach, Roger Laka, came out of retirement to take the field for the Mioks.
Coach Andrew said Laka’s experience and knowledge of the game played a big part in how the Mioks wanted to manage their games and that was evident in their top six finish after a slow start to the season.
