ANGAU Memorial Hospital in Lae this week scaled down its accident and emergency services to allow further upgrading work to the department to be carried out effectively.
The department yesterday began relocating to its temporary site at the transit block of the hospital.
Hospital authorities are asking people in Lae and nearby districts to use urban clinics nearest to them while the relocation was done.
Building contractor, Laka 2, a Lae-based company has begun renovation work to the A&E department.
The renovation is aimed at creating space to improve access and patient comfort.
The current space will also be extended and will contain a treatment room, toilets and a larger waiting area.
The hospital management said in a statement its mission was to achieve excellence in patient care in order to improve the health and well-being of all people who
seek its services.
“Maintenance in other area is progressing well and is yet another indication of how important our mission, patients and staff are to the management.”
Meanwhile, construction work on staff accommodation at the hospital’s residential area is progressing well and expected to be completed by the end of the year.
