A haus krai (mourning house) is to be set up at the Angau Memorial Hospital compound for a vigil in respect of the late Dr Alphonse Rongap who was shot in Lae on Saturday.
Doctors, nurses and the hospital management resolved to hold a vigil until the culprits responsible are apprehended.
The hospital scaled down its operations from Monday.
Rongap, a paediatrician, served in Lae and Morobe for almost 35 years.
Hospital chief executive officer Christopher Kenyhercz said the hospital management and staff stood united as a sign of respect.
Kenyhercz said the hospital would open for emergency cases only while caring for patients.
“We appeal to the communities along the Back Road, where the shooting took place on Saturday, who have information about the suspects to come forward to police to ensure justice prevails,” Kenyhercz said.
Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr said a male suspect was in custody.
