ANGAU Memorial General Hospital in Lae is awaiting a chief executive officer, with the term of the former officer expired in March.
Dr Christopher Kenyhercz left after three years of service to the hospital.
The hospital has a governing body that consists of nine board members.
The board is supported by four fulltime members of the executive management team, which is the CEO and three directors.
Chairman of the hospital board David Wissink said Dr Kenyhercz departed Lae earlier this month on the completion of his employment contract.
“After an international search and selection process, the vacancy has been filled and we are awaiting the finalisation of paperwork around the person selected,” he said
“Dr Ruso Perone is the acting CEO until the new CEO commences work.”
Wissink announced that the hospital would be launching the Morobe Provincial Health Authority (MPHA) in the coming weeks.
“This is very exciting for Morobe in that all health services, facilities (including the Angau Hospital), personnel, financing, etc will fall under one umbrella organisation,” he said.
“That organisation will bring quite a few positive changes to the system that is now in place to ensure basic healthcare is available in all corners of Morobe.
“As a new organisation, the MPHA will have its own board and executive management team. That board will take over from the current Angau hospital board.”
