THE new member for Ambunti-Dreikikir open in East Sepik, Ezekiel Anisi, has been urged to give priority to building a new road.Canute Goutok, from Tongujamb village, in Ambunti, said last Thursday the 26,000 people of Ambunti lived in isolation and wanted to connect to the outside world.
Goutok said there was no road network into Ambunti from the Dreikikir sub-district.
He said the people relied on the airline service provided by Missionary Aviation Fellowship to bring their goods and to fly in and out.He said many people walked for days on jungle tracks to Dreikikir to sell their produce and seek medical help.Goutok said many drowned using out-board motor powered boats down the Sepik River to their provincial capital. He said because of the remoteness of the area, many government services like health centres, schools, and police stations built during colonial period had deteriorated and closed down many years ago.He said if they had a road network in place, people would find it easy to sell their cash crops such as cocoa, vanilla, fresh fish and garden produce.
Goutok called on the MP to build a new road for them, saying that the a road network in place would bring other services. He said former MP Tony Aimo had promised to build a road but had done nothing.
The people had trust and confidence in the new MP to deliver the road to them.
