Annato wins bronze in golf

The PNG golf team missed out on the gold and silver but Morgan Annato’s impressive performance in the bronze medal play-off against New Caledonia’s Morgan Dufour was the talk of the day at Port Vila golf club.
Dufour, who was leading after round three of the men’s competition, was knocked back to the bronze play-off against Annato who was running for the third spot.
Going neck and neck, the two men had to break a tie in the end but the winds were in PNG’s favour as Annato gave Dufour a good run winning the third play off hole to claim bronze for PNG.
PNG also won a silver each in the men’s individual and team events.
On a long humid day the PNG golfers battled and it out giving their best to take out three medals in the women’s team (silver) , men’s team (silver) and a bronze in the men’s individual after Annato went for bronze play off against New Caledonia at a tie to win in an impressive play off.
In the women’s team event, New Caledonia got the gold, PNG and Fiji got silver and bronze respectively.
For the men’s team event, New Caledonia got gold, PNG silver, and Fiji won bronze.
In the men’s individual, medals went to New Caledonia (gold), Fiji (silver) and PNG (bronze).
PNG coach Nelson Gabriel said he was happy with the performance.
