ALL Central province district administrators and health coordinators have been ordered to ensure that annual in-service trainings are held for community health workers (CHWs).
Provincial administrator Raphael Yibmaramba said this at a workshop for 20 CHWs held in Port Moresby on Tuesday
“It is now a policy direction of the Health Department and the administration that all staff must be updated on changes and activity plans.
“This will help CHWs to participate fully in the service delivery effectively to achieve the goals,”  he said.
Mr Yibmaramba said the majority of people who needed Government services, such as health, were in villages scattered in the province and it was through CHWs that they received all the basic health services despite the hardship.
“Despite the lack of supervisory visits and health facilities, CHWs have demonstrated that they are capable of serving the people.
“Such meetings will help keep CHWs updated on how and what are required of them to deliver the services sought by the people.”
Workshop participants said communication, transportation and lighting were some of their common woes.
