Another bridge in Madang has collapsed because of the wet condition in the area.
Landslips, flooding, rivers flooding and break their banks – the problems caused by constant and heavy rain – have surfaced in the area.
The Asas Bridge, in the Kesewai, area shifted nearly three metres away from the Ramu side of the road last Friday, causing great inconvenience to stranded travellers.
Those from the Ramu side going to Madang were caught in light showers as they contemplated what to do –  whether to cross the makeshift footbridge and pay K2 or remain there until dawn.
Passengers from the Madang side booked buses and shifted their bags of betel nuts.
Ramu Police Station commander Peter Gorek said he had to stop youths collecting taxes in order to work on the road.
Bridges and roads have been damaged or destroyed  on  the Ramu-Usino Bundi Highway.
