AN elderly woman accused of causing the death of a boy through sorcery was killed and thrown into an old pit toilet, according to police.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the death and police are looking for more.

Chimbu provincial police commander Supt Augustine Wampe has urged people to help track down the killers.

The incident happened at Konoma village in Sinasina-Yongomugl district in Chimbu about two weeks ago. Police and health authorities in the district were unaware of the killing until early this week.

A team of police and health workers after being alerted went to the area and uncovered the decomposed remains of the woman in the pit.

They believed that it had been there for almost two weeks.

Police said relatives of the boy in the village accused the woman of causing his death through sorcery.

Police arrested four people and are looking for others.

Wampe has deplored the barbaric killing and warned people to stop.

There has been a spate of  similar  killings recently.

Meanwhile, an alleged drug addict who is suspected to have killed his wife and six-month-old son at Koge village in the same district last week, is scheduled to appear in the Kundiawa District Court today.

Police said the man, 28, allegedly killed his South Chimbu wife and son during an argument in a garden.

Police believe that he got angry after his wife refused to make love to him because of health reasons.

Wampe has appealed to married couples to respect each other and live harmoniously.
