THE softball fraternity in Tabubil, Western province, witnessed another spectacular feast of softball over the weekend with the staging of the first elimination finals at the Tabubil Softball Diamond.
After three hectic rounds, only the top four teams in both the men’s and women’s divisions advanced while the others have kissed good bye to the season.
In the men’s division, minor premiers Karanas, reigning champions Eagle Rangers, Thunderbolts and Strivers qualified while Magix, Mixmates and Northern Stormers lack the intensity to qualify.
In the women’s division, minor premiers Thunderbolts, reigning champions Eagle Rangers, Mixmates and Karanas secured the top four placings while Magix, Strivers and Stormers failed to qualify.
In last weekend’s men’s first elimination round, Strivers out-pitched season campaigners Thunderbolts 12-4 in a one-sided affair.
Strivers are now the outside favourites for the grand final berth.
They have recruited well this season resulting in Sunday’s strong performance which qualified them for the semi finals.
Led by pitcher Rerem Tavul, first base Laka Matapere, catcher Elias Atil, young second baseman Daniel Elison, short-stop Dabby Tamuna and super-batter Vinasius Waisman, Strivers gave no room to Thunderbolts to sail through, despite Thunderbolts’ strong fielding in the opening innings.
Their strong batting performance together with tight fielding made sure they kept their heads over the water to run through Thunderbolts.
