POOR turnout at the Mamose regional anti-corruption workshop in Lae, Morobe, last Friday, saw it deferred to a later date.

Government Chief Secretary Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc, who was to have chaired the meeting, instructed his staff to cancel it due to the poor attendance.

Morobe politicians and senior public servants were absent while some government officials and participants who gathered at the Rose Kekedo Convention Centre at the University of Technology campus in Lae were relayed the notice from the chief secretary.

Officers from the Prime Minister’s Department told The National the Lae event would be held after the Islands regional workshop in Kokopo, East New Britain.

The consultative workshop is to form an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) in the country.

The ICAC is an organisation that the government is trying to establish to fight corruption.

The regional workshops are to collect views from the public to form the ICAC.
