Being the hub of the PNG coffee industry, Goroka has attracted a global banking institution to open a banking centre in the province, ANZ PNG managing director Mark Baker says.
Baker said ANZ PNG opened its new corporate centre to serve corporate and institutional clients particularly with the emphasis on PNG’s coffee export industry.
“Goroka has been the heart of PNG coffee export industry for decades and the country’s high quality Arabica coffee finds its way into households all over the world,” he said.
“As Papua New Guinea’s only global bank, ANZ plays an important role in supporting the supply chain related to the country’s coffee export sector.”
He said local coffee buyers, processors and exporters were a critical part of the coffee supply chain that needed to conduct business in a more safe and secure environment.
Baker said the new centre represented a significant investment by ANZ in Eastern Highlands and was part of the bank’s emphasis in helping to develop agriculture in PNG.
