NEW Zealand Defence Force representative Brig-Gen Peter Kelly says the Anzac Day story is as powerful as ever and will continue to grow.
He said that in his Anzac Day dawn service address at the Bomana War Cemetery, outside Port Moresby, last Friday.
Kelly paid a special tribute to Papuan Infantry Battalion legend, Sergent Ben Moide, who passed away last December.
Those in attendance included Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, Australian government representative Ewen Jones, Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion, Australian High Commissioner Deborah Stokes, acting New Zealand High Commissioner Nici Stilwell, members of diplomatic corps, members of Returned Services League, veterans, members of Australian, New Zealand and PNG Defence Forces and the public.
“It is indeed an honour today to be among this beautiful but somber setting as we come together on the 99th anniversary of Anzac Day, at this sacred memorial, to pay tribute to those who died and fought at Gallipoli and other battles since,” Kelly said.
