Daniel Apako scored a double to help AROB demolish Radazz 4-0 in the opening match of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League New Guinea Islands Conference at the Sasindran Muthuvel Stadium in Kimbe, West New Britain, on Sunday.
AROB wasted no time and dominated possession early on, with midfielder Ferdinand Kusi setting up Apako to score in the 6th minute.
The Bougainvilleans continued their dominance as Apako scored his second in the 40th minute to give them a 2-0 buffer at half-time.
Radazz showed some promising signs of a comeback but the Bougainvillean defence kept them at bay.
AROB then scored in the 67th minute, thanks to Jeffrey Brian.
They put the icing on the cake just before full-time with a goal to Cletus Noneng. AROB coach Peter Kauma said he was pleased with his boys for putting up a remarkable performance in their first match.
“Firstly, I thank Radazz for the challenge, we really enjoyed the game,” Kauma said.
“It’s a first time for our boys to play in the NSL and we are looking forward to our other games.
“Most of our boys are young.
“Most of them only have experience playing in the Besta Cup and the PNG Games.”
Apako said he was happy to score for his team and plans on continuing to record more goals for AROB in their upcoming games.
“I am just happy to be here. I have been playing since I was a small boy back home in Siwai, South Bougainville, and coming here is a dream for me,” he said.
AROB will be on a bye this week and will reside at the Papua New Guinea Football Academy in Gigo.
