Apec seen a success

Letters

DESPITE criticisms targeting the purchase of the luxury Maserati cars, the money spent on hosting Apec and the inability of Papua New Guinea to meet international security standards, the hosting of the Apec meetings was successful.
Those who helped make PNG a member of Apec some 22 years ago need recognition and acknowledgement too.
Members of Parliament then, and in particular Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare and Sir John Kaputin, the Foreign Affairs Minister, deserve a pat on the back.
We should not forget Paias Wingti who engineered the look north policy which contributed towards PNG’s membership of Apec.
Prime Minister Peter O’Neil had sleepless nights pondering over the hosting and conduct of this milestone event for the country.
You did your bit and others did theirs and the outcome was successful.
Congratulations again.
Only visionary leaders who are focused and have the guts to take risks accomplish tasks some see as impossible.
