THE Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation team works hard to help lift the standard of living of people of its member countries, lead shepherd of the Apec human resource development working committee ambassador Park Dong Sun says.
He told the people of Eastern Highlands in the presence of host Governor Peter Numu, Daulo MP Pogio Ghate, Okapa MP Saki Hacky Soloma and members of the Eastern Highlands assembly during a luncheon at Goroka yesterday that improving the standard of living for the people of its member countries was top priority.
“We are now looking at ways to help the people to develop agriculture to help them elevate living standards. This includes economies where no one will be left out in our search for growing economy and improving standards of living,” he said.
On behalf of 30-odd members, who flew into Goroka yesterday, Sun said they felt like they were citizens of Goroka and Papua New Guinea after visiting the Belati Coffee Plantation and processing plant outside the town. They also visited New Guinea Highlands Coffee Exports and PNG Coffee Exports.
“It is a great honour to be here in Goroka to enjoy good hospitality and kindness, a lot of cultural performances made us feel friendly and we see the villagers waving to us and smiles make us feel good, Papua New Guinea is a real paradise,” he said.
Numu introduced the general profile of Eastern Highlands to point to them that there were many world renowned tourist and world attractions like the Asaro mudmen, Goroka Show and festivals.
He said delegates who travelled to Goroka a few weeks ago bought some mudmen masks and took them back to their country.
“This act of audacity to explore our province and experience the unique culture that we have is humbly a blessing to us,” he said.

  • Standard of living?? Mindset standard got to be set first other wise nothing will eventuate- one can talk about big ideas but family, education and church are the ones you support first.
