The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary Close Personal Protection Unit is an advanced command of security unit working to ensure the security of the Apec visiting dignitaries was guaranteed and protected at all times.
Continued training of the RPNGC Close Personal Protection Unit officers is very important as the safety of the VIP’s depended on units.
Papua New Guinea-Australia Policing Partnership Apec Close Personal Protection Training and Advisory Team, Inspector Derek Emerton said the initial phase one training would see within excess of 260 qualified CPP members.
He said currently running was the Close Protection Operations Programs 14 and 15 with 28 police participants. The course will end this month.
He said the two remaining Close Protection Courses 16-17 were currently scheduled to run for April 9 – 20, 2018.
PNG-APP Apec Traffic Operations, Inspector Michael Smith said traffic training schedule for Motorcade Operations were continuing and currently they had 5 programmes running. These included:

  1. Motorcycle – out riding andescorting;
  2. Driver for motorcades – enhanced skills – Sweep, pilot and block formations;
  3. Static manual traffic control point duty and check point;
  4. Integration and refresher training – Coordinated interoperability training with Airport, Close Personal Protection (CPP) and other stakeholders as required; and,
  5. Protocol support training support to the New Zealand High Commission program for the training of Protocol Officers.
