Apini’s story inspiring

Letters

Thank you The National for your story on Bernardine Apini published on Jan 24.
Her story is strength, love, perseverance, ups and downs and, above all, the grace of God.
She brought up her five children who now earn their bread and butter and she has 11 grandchildren.
Her decision to leave her violent husband in 2002 shows a strong-willed person and her desire to go back to university at the “tender” age of 55 to learn new skills in her endeavour to start a business back in her village is truly inspirational.
We men are physically strong and are always quick to be the first to stand up and say we are the head and boss of the family, but in real essence women, especially those like Bernardine, are super strong in their head and heart.
How many times when a father loses his job or when the family budget falls short that the mother is quick to fill the gap.
I know as my mother also provided for our family in very tough times.  I saw the love and encouragement every single day in those tough times from my mother and now I can fend for myself.
Well done, Bernardine.
Keep moving forward.  Your children, grandchildren and God are with you.
