Airlines PNG will begin direct services linking Lae, Madang and Wewak from May 20.

Muralee Siva, Airlines PNG chief executive officer said the new daily service would link the three ports in addition to providing connections through to Port Moresby, New Britain Island and Western Highlands over Lae.

“Airlines PNG is responding to customer feedback which strongly demands greater frequency between key ports and increased connections to cut down travel time.

“We believe the addition of these services will provide the travelling public of PNG more options and better value.

“APNG will continue to invest in domestic operations to ensure improved routing options for the people of PNG and our focus on ‘on-time performance’ now provides markedly improved levels of service and reliability to our customers.”

APNG said the schedule offered travelers the possibility of travelling from Wewak and Madang for a day’s business in Lae and returning on the same day.

“These additional services now mean it is possible to fly from Lae direct to Mt Hagen, Kimbe, Rabaul, Madang, Wewak, Tabubil of Popondetta with connections via Port Moresby to all other destinations served by APNG.”

Until about two years ago, the airline had been serving the Lae-Madang route but suspended its operations following the  Oct 13 crash of one of its Dash 8 aircraft that resulted in the death of 28 passengers and crew.
