HAT-TRICK hero Andrew Apo expressed his excitement after helping newcomers Kutubu come from behind to score a 4-2 win over Star Mountain on Saturday.
Apo told The National that it was an unreal feeling to grab a hat-trick following a slow start to their Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) campaign.
“It was an exciting feeling after struggling in our second and third games,” he said.
“I feel like I’ve found my combinations, my targeting has improved but I will still try my best to go back to training and work on it.
“I feel like this was a win that we deserved because we went through some hard training during the week after two straight losses,” Apo said.
He added that the win meant a lot for his team’s first outing in Port Moresby however the final score was an unexpected surprise.
“To win with a margin like this for first timers in this competition, it’s a big thing for me and at the same time, I would like to give thanks to God for giving us the win,” Apo said.
“We thought hard about getting in the race so we were hard at training and the weather in Moresby was something that was different for us but we stuck to what our coach told us.
“It was first time for a lot of the boys to come to Port Moresby, the heat got us down in the first half but we kept encouraging each other which brought us this result.”
