Aporro Mai hand Kagua Erave first loss in conference

Kagua Erave’s winning run came to an end after a 1-0 loss to Aporro Mai in the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League Highlands Conference at the National Sports Institute in Goroka on Saturday.
Aporro Mai worked overtime to prevent Kagua Erave from recording their seventh win from as many matches. Both teams started off strongly, giving each other limited opportunities on goal.
This saw both sides heading into the break scoreless.
After the break, Kagua Erave were unable to mount any pressure on their opponents.
Aporro Mai came back the hungrier of the two. This enabled them to score the winner and hold off the conference leaders until the final whistle.
Aporro Mai now have one win, three loses and two draws.
Meanwhile, the Blue Kumuls secured second spot with a 4-3 win over Enga Laima.
Laima scored three goals to the Kumuls’ one to take a 3-1 lead heading into the break.
However, the Kumuls bounced after the break with two goals (76th and 80th minute) from skipper and coach Andrew Apo to go level (3-3).
The match was heading for a draw when Kumuls’ Nelson Sam scored the winner in the last 10 minutes to complete the comeback.
In the third match, Mt Hagen beat Simbu Angra 3-2.
