THE Supreme Court yesterday dismissed, for lack of merit, the application by Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill to disqualify Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia from presiding over the East Sepik reference case.
The court ruled that the allegation that Sir Salamo had met with suspended Angoram MP Arthur Somare were “categorically denied” and were false.
It is a practice in the Supreme Court that any member of a full bench who was sought to be disqualified by a party would deliver the ruling on such application on his or her own behalf.
The allegations were that at 2am on Nov 4, three men had claimed to have seen Sir Salamo and Somare meeting at the Ela Beach Hotel in Port Moresby.
