APPLICATIONS for the 2019 Pacific Islands Journalism Reporting Tour offered by the East-West Centre in Honolulu, Hawaii, in September is open.
Twelve journalists in the Pacific will be selected for an immersive three weeks dialogue, study and reporting tour to discuss critical issues in the Pacific Islands including the environment, security and infrastructure development and financing.
Media professionals from print, broadcast and online news organisations including editors, reporters, columnists, editorial writers, producers, bloggers, videographers, and photo journalists with a minimum of five years of experience are eligible to apply. The application is open for journalists in Cook Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna.
Applicants should be a national of one of the countries listed and proficient in the English language.
They will also meet with journalists to discuss current media issues and receive training in fact-checking, newsroom technology, best use of social media platforms, newsroom operations, multimedia, and data based reporting.
The tour will start from Sept 4-22 in various locations throughout the United States and end with a capstone dialogue in Suva, Fiji.
Tour destinations will be from Honolulu, Washington, Galveston in Taxes and San Francisco and Suva in Fiji.
